'Home Sweet Home Alone': Funniest scenes from the 1990s 'Home Alone' classics

With this simple step, Kevin let the Wet Bandits know that they were likely outmatched. Both Harry and Marv, when they finally broke into the house, were already bruised and battered. It was praised for its quotable phrases, morals, traps, and main character.

In certain kitchen shots, there's a decorated gingerbread house visible on the counter. There are plants throughout Kevin's house, including in the dining room and kitchen. Despite having a number of plants in the house, Kevin's parents didn't arrange for anyone to water them. In the rush of trying to get to the airport on time, she accidentally counts a neighbor boy — who is curiously climbing through the van — which brings her total to the correct number even though Kevin is still sleeping in the attic. Like writer John Hughes' "The Breakfast Club,""Sixteen Candles," and "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," "Home Alone" is set in the Chicagoland area — which is clear from the mention of a Chicago airport and the Chicago Bulls decor in Buzz's room. Before they head to France without him, Kevin's siblings and cousins are constantly teasing and mocking him.

Entertainment

According to Bustle, the prop was a real edition of Playboy from 1989, so the crew may have taped everything else so that Macaulay Culkin wouldn't see any inappropriate content while they filmed the scene. But no one ever comes by the house to water them, which seems like something the family should've planned for before they left for the trip. In the sequel we see Kevin get chased through the scenes of New York and land up in a park. The bandits now covered in glue catch up to him when the mysterious bird lady shows up and throws bird feed on them. What follows is truly hilarious as we see multiple pigeons land on the sticky bandits as they fall down.

It sold 11 million copies, generating Fox revenue of $150 million making it, along with E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, the highest-selling video of all time at that point. Due to the sales, the film did not perform as well in the rental market.

The mannequins Kevin uses to throw off the Wet Bandits were in the basement when he first went down there.

In return, he was the only actor Hughes allowed to go off-script; according to Columbus, all his dialogue was improvised. The McCallisters left behind plants, agingerbread house, dirty towels, and open garage doors. As it turned out, they couldn't actually shoot inside the residential home they found. "It was far too small to get the crew in the door," explains director Chris Columbus. So they used the exterior of the home, but had to find another solution for interiors shots.

We see a bright flash as Harry emerges with a burnt head, blacked face, and teeth in frustration. "There is no holiday without "Home Alone". When and where to watch the cult movie?". Home Alone was first released by Fox Video on VHS and LaserDisc in the United States on August 22, 1991, their first video to go direct to sell-through rather than to the video rental market first.

There's an absurd number of towels in Kevin's bathroom.

To evade capture, Kevin grabs his older brother's tarantula, which he finds just in time. Kevin picks up the tarantula, something few adults would have the courage to do, and casually drops it onto Marv's face. It's Christmas morning and Kevin wakes to find himself home alone. After a bath wanting to imitate the adults he confidently puts on some aftershave. The aftershave burns his young skin as he creates one of the most iconic scenes in history. His scream rings in the whole house as his adulting bites him in the back.

But, before the shelf topples over, one of its legs is at his painfully perfect groin-height. Pain beyond pain, and that's before the shelf falls, subjecting Marv to a deluge of paint, cans, and wood. With the holiday season on its way, a bunch of Christmas movies are on their way to theaters. But, there are classics a-plenty that more than hold up to this new field of Christmas movies. In December 2015, Culkin reprised his role as an adult Kevin McCallister in the inaugural episode of the Jack Dishel web series, "DRYVRS", where a visibly disturbed Kevin recounts his experience of being left home alone by his family.

For the film within a film, Angels with Filthy Souls , shooting took only one day, on the final "test day" prior to the official start of principal photography. To create the illusion that the film was an authentic 1940s gangster film, the scene was filmed on black-and-white negative film, and Johnny's office featured props from that era. Like much of the film, most of the sequence was shot with low, wide angles that, according to journalist Darryn King, "capture the action as if a child were perceiving it".

On December 19, 2018, Culkin would once again reprise his role as an adult Kevin McCallister in a 60-second advertisement for Google Assistant, titled Home Alone Again. The commercial contains shot for shot remakes of scenes from the film. Google Assistant helps Kevin set up the house to look active by remotely turning on lights, devices, and setting up cutouts of people, to have the thieves parked in a van outside steer clear of the house. Additionally, Joe Pesci also reprised his role as Harry, only for his voice making a small cameo. Pesci later appeared in another ad where he watches the short with his friends and jokes about his brief cameo.

In the end, the production team ended up building an entire two-story set inside the gym at New Trier, the closest thing they had to a sound stage there. At this point, you start to question if Kevin is actually trying to defend his home, or if he just enjoys beating people up. With a simple combination of rope and multiple paint cans, Kevin ensures Marv's long-term brain damage, by nailing him, once more, right in the face with a full can of paint.

Of these aforementioned classics, Home Alone is perhaps the most entertaining Christmas movie of all time. It follows 8-year-old Kevin McCallister as his family accidentally goes to France without him. Beyond grocery shopping and doing the laundry, Kevin is pitted against two hardened burglars, who are intent on robbing his seemingly vacated house. The ensuing battle between the Wet Bandits (Joe Pesci & Daniel Stern) and Kevin McCallister showcase some of the funniest moments of cinematic savagery ever.

Once again, Harry gets a head full of fire, and, knowing that he would need to extinguish his flaming head, Kevin left what looked like water in the toilet, after cutting the water to the sink. Harry displays a surprising level of acrobatics and performs a handstand on the toilet bowl, lowering his head into the water. And, of course, in shock, Harry stumbles backward and slips right back down those icy steps. This on-the-spot move by Kevin led to one of the funniest scenes of the movie. After battling through most of Kevin's traps, Harry and Marv come very close to getting their hands on the little bane of their existence that is Kevin McCallister.

Hughes conceived Home Alone while on vacation, with Warner Bros. being originally intended to finance and distribute the film. However, Warner Bros. shut down production after it exceeded its assigned budget. 20th Century Fox assumed responsibilities following secret meetings with Hughes. Filming took place between February and May 1990 on location across Illinois. When Kevin and Mr. Marley talk in the church, the heavy, white bandage on his hand has been replaced with a smaller, tan one.

"Home Alone" is set near Chicago, like many other John Hughes movies. This is one of his schemes that showcases the true evil genius behind that innocent smile. Kevin, knowing that Marv would want to wash the paint out of his eyes after the shelf fell on him in Home Alone 2, wired the metal sink so that, instead of receiving a gentle trickle of water, Marv gets blasted with lightning.
